BIO

LivSmart was founded by entrepreneur/developer John Porfiris as a vehicle to combine and share his life’s work, passions, ideas and lifelong interests of creating and building things that solve a problem, make a difference and improve human well-being. His focus since 1995 has been in sensory and wellness centric real estate where experience is paramount.

In his 2009 startup, he co-created and launched Canada’s first electronic parcel lockers - a locker based system for last mile deliveries to multi-unit residential/commercial buildings and other high traffic areas. He had seen a need to provide time stressed individuals with hyper-convenience and while doing so disrupted the status quo on how consumers handled deliveries.

Driven by his insatiable curiosity and life long fascination with longevity has him lately exploring tailored and transformative hyper-wellness experiences provided through convenience. Stay tuned!

At LivSmart, we work closely with like minded individuals that share the same relentless attention to detail of the entire process as we do in creating unique, transformative and compelling projects. Our work takes time, passion and patience. We enjoy it.

Aesthetic Approach

Our approach is tailored to each individual project environment instead of being fixed or formulaic so that our buildings enhance and are harmoniously in tune with the surrounding area. We focus on creating spaces and volumes carefully carved by proportion, geometry, circulation, voids and lines. Using natural, authentic, simple and noble materials requiring minimal maintenance such as brick, concrete, stone, iron and wood, helps us create pared down architecture with a soul. Void of ornamentation, we consciously curate finishes and textures that are inviting and continue to improve over time. Attention is paid to craftsmanship, design and materials that address the physical and mental health of people that have to live and work in them. Everything from the exterior to the interior is carefully considered and well crafted to create an environment that supports optimal living and is enjoyable to inhabit. Our work is best described as monastic, quiet and serene, spaces that heal and calm the senses.

Health & Wellbeing

We believe in living well and that a home should be a sanctuary, moving beyond design and entering into the realm of wellbeing, where one can escape for peaceful contemplation, reflect on life and heal, allowing the body + mind to recharge. Placing human health first and foremost is our priority. We create healthy buildings that have a positive impact by promoting health and wellness, drive performance and productivity so that they improve the wellbeing of its occupants. A key contributor to wellbeing is materiality, amenities, nature, space and light, air and water quality and acoustics, the use of which is at the core of our design work and is the foundation of good health.

Smart

Within each home, we strive to seamlessly integrate numerous current networking technologies and communication interface systems such as, energy management, security and access control, HVAC, lighting and entertainment control and health monitoring. All these help connect key equipment with mobile devices and permit users to remotely control, monitor and access their residences.

Sustainable

LivSmart places great importance not only on sustainable architecture and environmental impact, but also on human biological impact. Each building is designed with proper window orientation and shading for natural lighting and cross ventilation, well insulated with an airtight thermal envelope and mechanically ventilated while being equipped with energy efficient lighting, appliances and mechanical systems. We also strive on building homes that are resilient to climate change and impervious to shock by incorporating self reliant measures wherever possible such as, solar and wind power, geothermal heating and cooling, rainwater collection systems, vertical gardens and hydroponic systems.
